An ordinary life....

Great joy...

I woke up to a load of wonderful photographs sent to me by our Skye friends.  L's brother Anthony has graduated from the University of Nairobi and it's a joyous occasion.

We've never met Anthony in person but have corresponded with him online and sponsored (with others) his education through Secondary School and university.

I have been humbled over the years of following his progress by how much he appreciated the help we and his other sponsors have given him and his determination not to let us down, as well as his recognition of how precious a good education is.  It has not been something he could take for granted.  It makes me sad that so many children in the western world not only take their education for granted, but throw it away.

It's not been easy for him and there have been many times throughout his education where circumstances beyond his control could easily have derailed his efforts to improve his life chances, but he stuck at it, determined to gain his degree.  And now he has.  I am so happy and proud of him and wish him, his young wife and his little boy all the very best for their future.

Meanwhile there was also joy closer to home with a visit from John and Norma.  Alan was over the moon to see them both and I would say the feeling was mutual.  John arrived with a massive bag of goodies (a tradition started by my mum :-)  Cakes (yes plural) biscuits, cookies, Millionaire's shortbread and chocolate.  We will never eat it all so Alan's support workers are in for a treat tomorrow :-)

We've had a lovely catch up over the afternoon and dinner.  John has recovered well from his recent knee replacement surgery and is very happy to be driving again.  Norma is her usual cheery self and delighted to have cuddles from Alan and Lola.  We've had a great evening with Alan loving having his Grandpa and Norma watching TV with him and chatting about holidays and Christmas.  They are such good company.

They are staying over so the laughter will continue at breakfast :-))
