Life's Little Moments

Prepared to Launch

House Finches are abundant in our yard this winter after scarcely seeing any all summer.  It's always interesting to observe a flock of them so as to appreciate the subtle differences in their plumage.  This male is especially bright and shows more red than most of the others.  I've read that females do show a preference for more brightly plumed mates, so I expect he'll be quite popular as/when breeding season gets underway.  For now, they are all keenly focused on eating and staying alive.  A simple life, but one that doesn't forgive miscalculations.

Hubs and I took Jax for a walk and I'll try to get him out for another one before we lose the light.  Although we had a glimpse of the sun this morning, it is quite dark and dreary outside now although not especially cold.

Did some grocery shopping this morning and was surprised that it wasn't especially busy.  I picked up some frozen sea scallops that I'll thaw for NYE dinner - planning to sear them and then make a quick pan sauce with lemon and garlic and butter.  Easy and yummy.

We watched "Ocean's 11" last night which was a fun romp.  Hard to believe it was released 22 years ago!  Not sure what will be on our list tonight but it will be something equally light and happy.  Neither one of us is in the mood for anything sad or too serious at the moment.

Dark with peppermint today.
