The accidental finding

Brimscombe Port, near Stroud

Brimscombe was an inland port on the canal, back when it was an important waterway. It even had its own customs office. Now most of the old buildings have been flattened for redevelopment, but these offices remain, overlooking the weed-encrusted millpond and the  river Frome. In summer it's a lovely spot. I'd still like an office here. I could cycle to work, and eat at the social enterprise cafe, the Long Table. Of course, I'm not sure what I'd actually do in that office....

GG and I were walking here, after a coffee at Felt Cafe. The sun was shining, as evidenced by the blue sky. I was a bit alarmed when GG stepped off the pavement into the patch of an incoming car, which she claimed not to have seen. How could she not have seen it?  No harm was done, however. And I have not signed up to do a slide show on my return from India, despite all of my 79 year old friends thinking that's a great idea. No, I've set up a WhatsApp group instead. Less socialising involved!

When I got home, CS and I drove off to Slimbridge wildfowl and wetland trust. I like to go there in the Bewick swan season, and watch the wild swans being fed from a barrow by a trained warden who provides a detailed  commentary and knows the Bewick
swans by name. It's always so interesting to see all the activity on the pond, and to hear the sounds. One day soon we'll also visit the artist/naturalist Peter Scott's house. The ground floor is now a museum, 1950s style. We drove home as the sun was setting: now after 5pm!

Since we got home, I've been dealing with some of those annoying but necessary things that have to be done before I go away.
