HOWAY THE LASSES

I went to St James Park this afternoon to watch the Newcastle United Women's team playing in the F. A. WOMEN'S NATIONAL LEAGUE CUP SEMI FINAL.  Kick off was 2pm and their opponents were Portsmouth.  I got my ticket online and it only cost £1 ( this was the concessionary rate. Normal price was £5 ) The womens team don't usually play at St James Park - this was only the 4th time they have played there.  They drew a large crowd of 22,370.  Lots of children filled the stands.  It was a chance for them to see inside the stadium - tickets for the mens matches are really hard to come by.

Newcastle Women played very well and had quite a few goal chances - but the score at half time was 0 - 0.  Not long into the second half  Newcastle scored.  However within 10 mins Portsmouth had equalised.  The match got to the 89th minute when Newcastle scored again.  Then the clock changed to 90 mins ..... but 7 mins of Extra time was added.  Bit of a nervous 7 mins in case Portsmouth scored ... but they didnt.  Final score Newcastle 2 Portsmouth 1.  So Newcastle are through to the final.  They will play Hashtag United... a team from Essex.  The final will be played at the ground of Luton Town... the capacity there is only 11,500 so it seems a strange choice.

My collage shows the team huddle before kick off, the two Newcastle mascots Monty and Maggie, a flag with the wording " Howay The Lasses ", a football themed bucket hat and the large flag in the Gallowgate Stand with the wording " Geordie Pride ".

I didn't bother doing any shopping after the match and got a bus straight home.  I was in the house by 5pm.  Fell asleep on the sofa for a while before having my evening meal.  Then it was time to watch The Great Pottery Throwdown and Dancing On Ice.
