Flower Friday. : : Tulips in a Pot

Like almost everything else around here, the tulips do much better in a pot than in the ground. I always look forward to seeing them bloom just to see what kind they are. The yellow ones are really fluffy doubles, but are tulips.

Our next door neighbor had shoulder surgery several months ago and was wearing a sling for a long time (longer, I gathered from his wife than she thought absolutely necessary) He is back outside now weed whacking the field behind their house and next to ours, so he must be feeling better.

I told John this morning as we were driving to our Friday morning coffee that I was beginning to feel 'normal' again...looking forward to my evening glass or two of wine and cooking dinner again. He said he thought out visit with the Great Man had something to do with it and I'm inclined to agree with him.

We're still getting some rain and it is unseasonably cold with snow on some of the higher peaks but the end is in sight, which means we will be able to get out for walks more often and I can work on getting a little more distance. I had a belated birthday lunch with Kathy today during which we discussed strategies for keeping the knee in good working order, the feeling of fury/frustration over the way so many things in the world seem to be going, the fact that it is difficult to retire when you have trained for and done one job all your life and don't know how to do anything else, and people who have found great satisfaction in 'alternative' lifestyles.

I feel that young people, my grandsons being the main example, don't seem to have the same mindset that we had, which was that you were wedded to your job for life and your job took care of you. None of them plan to do the same job forever. They probably have to be a little more nimble since their jobs don't take are of them so much, but, since they can't afford to buy a traditional single family home  here, their priorities are much different than ours were.

Our lady turkey, Henrietta, was back on the porch railing preening herself today. I chose the picture in extras because it doesn't really show her head which is definitely not her best feature....
