Winter Nor'Wester

As planned, today saw a quick return trip to Timaru to see my in-laws.

As forecasted, the Nor'Wester brewed over the Southern Alps. The snow covered peaks glistened in the bright sunshine whilst the warm wind howled over the plains. As we crossed the Rakaia bridge and headed south, each side of the bridge was shrouded in dust kicked up from the gravel bed of the swollen braided river.

Just an hour down the road, the Southerly that swept in behind the Nor'Wester met us on the highway. Net result - 8 degrees temperature drop in 5 minutes and overcast gloom.

Ladies and gentleman, welcome to Canterbury's dynamic climate....

My in-car photography bug has once again bitten hard. I think it's fair to say that Dad's slightly heavier right foot ensured a little bit more motion blur, even at this shutter speed... I think he needs some tips from Mrs Horomaka!
