Pitmedden Garden, Aberdeenshire

A visit to a French-style formal garden, with four parterres, three of which are based on designs in the gardens of Holyrood Palace. Originally laid out in 1675 by Sir Alexander Seton, 1st Baronet of Pitmedden.

Immaculately cared for, with about 5 miles of hedging in the parterres. So much colour in the borders, and over 80 varieties of apple trained against the walls of the gardens. Not many visitors today, so we enjoyed the peacefulness of the place. There are terraces above the formal garden, so you can enjoy views such as this.

There is also a Farming Museum, with many well displayed exhibits, a herb garden, and woodland walks.

Later this evening, we met up with nieces and nephew on the beach near Aberdeen harbour, had fun with Pippin the dog, and enjoyed a wonderful sunset.
