Good Friday
I am sharing an Airbnb in Cornwall with my SiL, BiL and my SiL’s best friend, but that’s only for 4 nights. As it’s a long way I decided to book something on my own beforehand and explore the County. I haven’t been to Cornwall for a very long time.
So today is day 1, and the forecast is wet, windy, cold and generally dreary. So I am visiting Truro, which is a first for me.
This morning I visited the Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery, a fascinating place, and all done very well. I had a wonderful salad for lunch at the Arts cafe, part of the Museum.
I had a wander around the town centre in the afternoon, I love exploring places I don’t know. I bet a lot of people visiting miss the fact Truro has a harbour, it’s on the wrong side of a dual carriageway off centre, the Truro River very silted up. I visited the Cathedral, one of the few in England I’ve never visited. St Mary’s Singers and Orchestra were rehearsing for this evening’s performance.
Late afternoon I returned for Choral Evensong, and stayed for Bach’s St John Passion. It was a performance modelled on the first performance on Good Friday 7th April, and sung in English. That meant the audience/congregation were expected to join in with four chorales. That was unexpected. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
A long day, the performance ended at 9pm. It was quite a journey back to the farm, which is in a remote middle of nowhere area. Sat Nav is wholly unreliable so I got thoroughly lost in the middle of all the darkness a few times, but eventually found my way back for 10.30pm. One big Phew!
