Look Out

This is not a Drill

I have three main reasons to visit St Ives today. To visit the Tate, which was not here when J and I last visited. To visit the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, once her home and studio. And to check out what the painting that mum and dad bought on their honeymoon, taking pride of place over the fireplace ever since - and which I now have - is of, and what the view looks like now after over seventy years have elapsed.

So first the Tate, which I enjoyed. The major exhibition was of the work of Ithell Colquhoun, who I had never heard of. My visit was interrupted by a fire alarm, we were told that it was not a drill, and everyone had to leave and stand on the other side of the road overlooking the beach. We were allowed into the concourse after 15 minutes, but not into the building itself, and it was announced that a young lady (visiting with her mother) wanted to try some stand up comedy. She had a captive audience. Then into the galleries. After having my lunch there as well I left, to be greeted by the sight of apparently naked bodies draped over the stairs up into the building (closer inspection revealed skin coloured body pieces, fortunately) - a protest against industrial fishing.

The rest of the day was equally eventful ! Some extras added temporarily.
