Tricontaregion
In the morning I added a couple more slides to my talk, before getting a haircut on my way to the bus into Edinburgh. On the train to Durham, I added the last two slides, and could relax.
On arrival I took the station's Turf zone, bringing my number of regions Turfed to 30, yielding the Tricontaregion Star medal, which is the highest for visiting regions, so that's that! I took the bus up to the University, and was greeted by the guy who had invited me to give a seminar. We chatted, and I learned why he'd had reason to use HiGHS. He passed me on to a colleague who wanted to discuss a problem with me, which is always scary, as my knowledge is so narrow. Fortunately the discussion led me to suggest an approach that had already been tried, so I didn't feel stupid.
After my small talk had dried up, she took me downstairs in good time for my talk. Fortunately so, since it took 25 minutes for them to identify how to get a laptop to communicate with the data projector! By then we'd given up on getting Teams to work so we could live-stream my talk. You'd have thought a Computer Science department would be more IT literate... or maybe not! There were only about eight in the audience...
Fortunately the new slides I'd prepared will be re-used in other talks I'll give this year, so that wasn't a complete waste of time. On my way back to the station I had a lovely meal in a Turkish restaurant, the cost of which I'll claim from Durham. Now to take the train back.
