Cockermouth and the Western Fells

From the higher ground north of the town.

We had tea with blippers Trev and Ros Earthy this afternoon in their delightful garden overlooking the River Derwent. The river was very low today but we know it can be a double edged sword.

Tea was accompanied by cake then we were taken on our own personal a tour of the town to show us what the town has to offer in terms of shops, services, facilities as well as community activities such as the U3A, library, arts centre and launderette.

They may regret selling their town so well. It is a place we are very taken by, a proper town, not a tourist attraction but near enough to the Lakes to make them accessible . A good bus service too. It’s a town to explore more to research the neighbourhoods and see what the property market is like.

The main purpose of renting a flat here is to explore the area at our leisure as well as having a holiday. We’re doing both at the moment aided and abetted by glorious weather again.

Before visit in Cockermouth we went to the tip in Workington, a mistake as it took 30 minutes to drop off our cardboard and other stuff owing to the crazy layout of the site. We then trundled on to Dunelm to buy you more items for the flat. It’s proving exciting! We even bought a birthday present for one of Susan’s great nephews in an independent toy shop in Cockermouth, oh! And a 30p celeriac in the “to clear” box at the greengrocers.

I thought it was 10 years since we last saw Trevor and Ros, I was two years out. It was on 1st March 2017: https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2283900042026683822
