Views from Vauxhall Station

Gavin had a good night's sleep and is getting stronger. Today he went into his home office and had a few works calls and a chat with the headmaster where he is Chairman of the Governors, long overdue as there is much going on needing his attention - although both work and the school have been brilliant at delegating his duties and saying he must not bother and rather get better, But Gavin being Gavin cannot do that... Admittedly he was exhausted after a few phone calls, and had to have a nap afterwards. When he first got ill he could not concentrate on anything, he could not read or even send a text message so this is a big improvement.  (his system was so out of kilter with his electrolytes all over the place, that I see the doctor described it on the medical report as suffering from delirium)

It was another beautiful sunny and warm day today - after I walked Xena and helped Gavin, I got the train to Vauxhall...again. Thankfully this time I did not come out the station and head west towards the hospital but went in the opposite direction to go to Fixation to collect my camera that I had taken in for a much needed sensor cleaning.

I took a few photos around the station. I believe that the origin of the name Vauxhall is from a large manor house owned in the area, which was referred to as Faulke's Hall, later Foxhall, and eventually Vauxhall. However it is also thought to be named that following the visit by Tsar Nicholas I, who visited Britain to study the railway network. The Russian word "vokzal" (вокзал) meaning "central railway station" may have influenced the Vauxhall name. The elephant and castle statues on top of that building seen in the bottom right image, remain from the famous Elephant and Castle Pub that was built in 1870.

I took Gavin to the local nurse today and she was slightly concerned about his wound that should be healing better than it is - she held off giving him antibiotics and will check it again tomorrow. Last week I also handed in all Gavin's medical records from his private hospital stay to our local GP practice so the NHS records can be updated, and today Gavin got a phone call from out local GP who is obviously very concerned about him.

I feel as if we are in that period of the calm before the next storm and I hope it will be a very long time before the next storm comes.

I am going to camera club tonight as I have to collect all my prints for the upcoming exhibition, and other ones that have been used in external competitions.
