Innerpeffray Library
Innerpeffray is the home of Scotland’s first free, public lending library, established in 1680 by David Drummond, 3rd Lord Madertie. His idea of having people be able to take home books was a radical idea. The Education Act of 1496 made education mandatory amongst the elite. In 1870, education for all children between 5 and 13 became mandatory. Today, Scotland is the most highly educated country in Europe. The oldest book in the library is from 1476 written by John Dunn Scotus. The woodland walk to the library was enchanting and the library seemed to be in a world of it’s own. The Drummond family chapel which is attached is very interesting too. The extra is Henry’s collage which includes him in the library, standing with the “Leafy Coos” in Creiff, standing ON one of the stones in the ancient stone circle in Comrie and, last but not least, next to the iconic “Mirror Man” at Loch Earn. “I’m the Mirror Mouse”, he shouted before I dragged him out of the water! What next?
