An ordinary life....

Strathearn...

We had a more leisurely start to the day as Lola had an appointment at the Vet to have a lump on her tail checked out.  Thankfully the Vet thinks it's a benign cyst (not allowing myself to think it could be anything else) but has taken samples to be tested.

We had lunch when D and Lola returned then headed off to our first port of call today, Innerpeffray Library, Scotland's first lending library, which opened in 1680.

The history of it is wonderful and it remained a lending library from 1680 right through till 1968.

The history, the building and the books are incredible and the ladies we met there today so passionate and knowledgeable about their subject, bringing the history to life.  And to be able to see the library's oldest book - The 1476 edition of the works of philosopher and theologian John Duns Scotus - is amazing.  It blows my mind to think it has survived that length of time.

It's not only the library and its contents that are incredible, but its setting too.  The little woodland lane that leads to the door is magical, full of dappled sunlight, wild flowers, ancient trees and birdsong.  It's a very special place indeed.

From there we made a quick stop at Crieff Visitor's Centre for coffee and banana and peanut butter loaf, then on to Loch Earn via the Dumnoid stone circle in Comrie (a wee aside, Comrie is the earthquake capitol of the UK :-)) so that Patricia could meet Still (aka Mirror Man)  Loch Earn was sparkingling the sunshine be the sun was behind him and very bright, so not the best conditions for photographing him, but at least P got to meet him.

Home via Crieff so P could photograph the leafy coos.  Dinner and chat about our day and bookings made for tomorrow's adventure.  Perth museum and the Stone of Destiny and the MacBeth exhibition.  All of the books on witchcraft that belong to Innerpeffray Library are on loan as part of the exhibition so looking forward to seeing them.

And still the sun shines on :-))
