Pelargonium auritum
Another in my increasing series of South African plants. Although not bulbous, this species is one of a group which form a stout caudex, a thickened basal stem, which acts rather like a tuber, storing water through dormancy. It's proved hardy here in the unheated greenhouse, easily raised from seed as this one has been, it's in the 'something a bit different' class of summer flowers.
Today was Sweepout and Clean day at pottery, a community day where we try to sort as well as clean. Pottery is a messy business and although we clean as we go, this annual event makes a big difference. The building, on an old army camp, is home to many spiders and woodlice plus birds which nest under the eaves and occasionally find their way inside too. We met after lunch for about three hours work and re-convened at someone's lovely house outside Tywyn later for an alfresco bring and share meal and some time to chat.
I left early as the dogs had not had a walk, just too hot during the day. I picked J up as well and we had a peaceful stroll up the lane at Rhydyronen around sunset, stopping to chat to the donkeys on our way down.
A lovely day :-)
