Mál
Today I took some baby steps on the coding project that I'd wanted to start when I came to the Faroes a year ago. It's hard, so I've kept distracting myself with other things. I remembered to put in my UK SIM card just before 13:00, so that I could be called if there was a problem with my exam. Once the 30 minutes "on duty" were up, I put back my Føroyar Tel SIM card, and took my recycling down to the alcohol shop. It has two machines to take cans and glass/poly bottles, and gives a credit note for the deposit. With my 30 krone, I picked out three interesting Oy beers, and paid the difference. After buying a few groceries to help use up what's left of mine in the flat, I cooked lunch and carried on working.
I knocked off at 18:00 to go down to the Við Djúpumýrar stadium to watch the only KÍ home game of my stay. It was the first leg of the Faroes Cup semi-final, against Argja Bóltfelag (AB). AB play in the second league, so it was a fairly comfortable 4-0 win for KÍ. Although it was beautifully sunny, it was too cold to sit in the shade of the stand - despite the wooly hat that I grabbed as an afterthought on leaving the flat! So, I watched the first half standing in the sun at one end, and the second sitting with the AB supporters in the stand at the other end. There I managed to capture this goal (mál) by Jóannes Danielsen, the only one not scored by Patrik Johannesen. In the extra, Johannesen's mis-directed bullet header almost flattened a woman standing near me!
The Faroe Islands are a lot more than mountains and football, but this photo (with the looming Háfjall) and the extra (with the ridge I walked yesterday in the background) combine the two very nicely.
I've only got one more day here...
