Saxifraga longifolia
I first saw it in flower in the Pyrenees twenty nine years ago on my first mountain flower holiday and I have been trying to raise it from seed ever since. Finally, I have succeeded and can appreciate the flowers in person once again. I think this plant is seven or eight years old and after flowering it will die, hopefully setting lots of seed for me to try again. The rosette of linear, lime encrusted foliage is very attractive in it's own right, the long inflorescence with hundreds of individual flowers is perhaps the most impressive of any saxifrage. A magic gardening moment.
A work day at Aber Cafe. Moderately busy but the trade nicely spread so that we coped without difficulty. After work Jamie and I went to the beach with his beach wheelchair for half an hour before I went to sing with the Tuesday group. After a slightly rusty start, we made a joyful sound.
A volunteer work day tomorrow, on the trains again :-)
