Leaving

Today I woke well before my 06:30 alarm and had plenty of time to get up and have breakfast. Indeed, I still had 30 minutes to wait before leaving to get the bus. So, I had a short walk around the area that's been home for a fortnight, relishing the clean, cold air and pretty morning light one more time.

The bus journey to the edge of Tórshavn was a joy, since it was cloudless and still early, but also because there was no regret at leaving on such a fine day after all the glorious weather. I photographed quite a few views from the bus, and I think this is the best. It shows the Streymin Bridge that (in 1976) provided the first fixed link between the two biggest islands (Eysturoy and Streymoy) and the (slightly!) gentler terrain of the southern islands. Although still steep, the roads generally run along the fjords, linking settlements, rather than running in tunnels through the mountains to reach the habitable places. I've added a few more as extras, the first of which includes a couple of the hills I climbed above Fuglafjørður. It's satisfying to be able to identify an increasing number of hills as I travel through the islands. On the outskirts of Tórshavn I changed to the airport bus, and arrived just after 10:00, with my flight not due to leave until 12:55. I bought myself a coffee and a crispy Danish pastry, and sent myself up with my laptop.

I was picked up from the airport by A and, back home, tiredness soon kicked in. If I'm to meet the School's ridiculous deadline, I should have started marking my exam, but I'd rather do it well than on time.
