Nimes

We finished our photo workshop at an event in honour of the man who formalised and recorded the key aspects of the Camargue 'gardian' tradition (his name was Baroncelli). After some short speeches, there was a demonstration of gardian skill: separating a bull calf from the herd and catching it as if for branding (these days they have modern ear tags). Photos from that to come later...
After we wrapped up & had a final delicious lunch together, I caught the train to Nimes. Chatting to Pierre, fellow photographer, I was reminded about this place and went to find it: a Roman temple from approx 2-5 AD. It is quite astonishing. Pierre's girlfriend had worked on the submission to get UNESCO world heritage status for it. In the extra I'll add a glimpse of the equally stunning Roman amphitheatre, still in use today. I visited Nimes 30+ years ago with Jack and Ruth, and remember both sites from then. I'd gladly come back and spend more time here, given the chance.
