The wetlands pond has
grown into a lake with the
river flooding lands
~carliewired
I was out at Tranquille before 6 this morning. Some cloud has made the light rather mystical. The warm weather has caused the river rise and it has flooded the pasture land around the wetlands pond. It appears to be a shallow lake now, with Canada geese and other water fowl moving in to the new landscape.
I drove to the end of the road to spy on the osprey, but there was nothing visible there this morning. I got out and leaned against my car thinking I could wait a bit to see if one flew in. However, I found the mosquitoes a big bother. I will leave that observation for another day.
I had a look across the flooded wetlands to my mountains. I found the wild clematis blooming abundantly and tangled into all the underbrush.
Mosquitoe control begins in our region this week. Many locations are monitored to find just the right stage of larvae development, then helicopters move in with bio-friendly sprays along the wet areas. There are so many breeding grounds for mosquitoes during flood season. Once the river drops and the low lands dry out again, the problem eases.
I'm home for the morning with appointments in the downtown this afternoon. I may have to miss my nap!
