Hengistbury Head & IOW
A return visit to Hengistbury Head has been on my mind for a while … 8 years since a last visit, gulp! Nowadays, a 1.5hr, 75-odd mile journey each way is not one I relish for a single day trip, and as a trip to fairly nearby Brownsea Island (last visited even longer ago) was also on the wish list, I made a last minute booking into a cottage for a couple of nights and here I am.
After a damp coolish start, it was a perfect day weather wise. The walk over the head to Mudeford was glorious. I saw skylarks, heard numerous other birds and the butterflies and bees were enjoying early blooming Heather. At Mudeford I sat on the beach enjoying the view of the iconic rows of beach huts and a bit later in the afternoon settled down to do an en Plein air sketch of some (extra), before walking back across the head via the ponds to the car, and onto my bright modern accommodation just outside Poole.
My main is the view of the head along the beach looking across to the IOW and The Needles.
A good start to my mini break!
