White Letter Hairstreak
A morning at Dunham Massey. Four interesting things as I left (three of which are in extras).
The first was a group of fallow deer stags who were unusually tame.
I then met a couple scrutinising a thistle, she had a long lens on her camera. It was a white letter hairstreak butterfly, which I’ve not seen before.
They then told me about the (European) hornet nest in the tree stump twenty feet away. If I put my head within three feet of a wasps nest they’d be all over me, but hornets (although four times the size) are much more docile. Unless you stir up the nest of course. Beautiful insects.
And then further down the path artist Rob Wilson painting. He uses collage techniques and finally stitching, as he was explaining to the lady out of picture (who paints, and was clearly impressed). His painting style is one I like.
