Concierto De Otoño

Yes, not a very inspiring photo, but the best I could get from my vantage point and with the dim lighting in the church.

While walking about this afternoon, I spotted a poster announcing a string recital this evening at 2100 hrs at Iglesia de la Santa Cruz. Later in the day, when our bus let us off in front of the church, we discovered (to my delight) that it was across the street from our new favorite taco stand, Los Jarochos. After fortifying ourselves with a few succulent tacos al pastor and some cold horchata, we headed over.

The performance, titled Concierto De Otoño was put on by students in the Orquesta Escuela de Puerto Vallarta. I especially enjoyed watching the very animated and flamboyant conducting style of one of the group directors, Miguel Almaguer, seen here.

The students appeared to be of high school age and had excellent, excellent sound. The program consisted of pieces by Gluck, Brahms, Holst, Warlock, Boccherini, and Fucik. All in all, a wonderful evening of music in an intimate, community setting.
