Notre Dame by night

Saturday
We had a wonderful evening out up in Paris, attending an organ recital in Notre Dame. When we had been up there on Monday with my sister and nephew, I had noticed a poster advertising their free organ recitals every Saturday night. I always enjoy organ music, but hearing it in a setting like that was just amazing - when there were loud passages you could hear the music all around you, reverberating off the stone walls. As a pianist, organists always amaze me. I have a hard enough time keeping track of one keyboard - organists have four or five keyboards, and then their feet are just as busy as their hands, often in quite a different rhythm to their hands - it blows me away. Back in Cincinnati we used to go to organ recitals occasionally at Hyde Park United Methodist, and there the console is actually visible in front of the congregation, so you can see all their footwork as well as their hands, whereas in places like Notre Dame they're usually way up, well out of sight. The recital unfortunately was relatively short - I could have sat and listened for much longer - and afterwards, after taking a few photos of Notre Dame by night, we went to find somewhere to eat. Thinking it was supposed to be a decent day, we had thought of going up to Paris earlier in the day and doing some sightseeing. However, the forecast I'd heard seemed to have got it wrong, as it was a cold grey, dreary day, so instead we went into Fontainebleau to the pool and got some exercise
