I've been working on the Railroad

Thursday: Picked up Oskar, Tatum and Fiona from their 3 different schools to play here at home before we all (except Fiona) went to see Niklas‘ school play, "Hammer in Hand, A Rip Roaring Musical Railroad Tale as Tall as John Henry" an original musical written by his talented 4/5th grade teacher. It’s about John Henry and building the railroads in America (the continent they are studying this year) - "a rich combination of tall tale, culture, history and humor."- Of course we loved watching Nik sing, dance and speak John Henry, here (plaid shirt) taking bows with the other leads. We’re not prejudiced at all.:-) This was only the first half so we get to see more later…these kids are so darling, and impressive actors and actresses….

a few more from tonight on flickr

Last night we went to the art museum to hear Robert Davidson whose wonderful "Abstract Impulse" exhibition is there.--He's an interesting colorful artist who brought his ancestor's native art back to his village (under some duress) in Haida Gwaii after it was silenced for so long…Now he's very successful, lives in Vancouver, has simplified and abstracted the native form line design...-says his goal is to make a painting with ONE Haida line. It was a pleasure to hear him talk about his art.
