Double Shot Mummy

Inquiring Minds and Dinner with Caroline

Some of us mums on the Palm have started a little play group as there isn't actually a lot around here! Maple had been enjoying socialising immensely. I have to say (Bad mummy moment), that Maple hasn't been to a fraction of the amount of organised groups/classes I took Oscar and Bailee too. It has been a case of third child syndrome, things in Dubai being immensely expensive and the fact that we have a beautiful park full of kids at our doorstep. Maple always just tags along with the twins. It was really nice, however, for her to play with some kids more her age today.

In fact, Bailee and Oscar tagged along to 'Maple's Playgroup' today as I didn't take them to school for fear of being stuck in traffic for hours due to the Dubai Tour (Major cycle race). Typically of Dubai, nobody really knew what was going on. The papers reported that all roads on route would be closed between 1120 and 430. In fact, they were only closed for the short time the peletons road through each part of the track. We actually caught them and got to watch them from our balcony. It was breath taking.

That night I was very fortunate to be able to meet up with Caroline. She is a wonderful twin mummy friend from our time in the UK. Funnily enough, we barely knew each other in the UK. We met through Gemini Plus, our local twins club and she hunted me down for a couple of magazine articles and rescued Oscar in the hall one day. We have got to know each other better through interacting on Facebook. Having twins is a real bonding tool. So when I heard she was coming to Dubai, we arrange to meet up with the the trio and to have a girly dinner out.

We went for Japanese at Sho Cho in Jumeirah. The setting and atmosphere was beautiful. The blue lighting and view of the waves crashing up against the beach was unique. The restaurant was modern and classy, but very comfortable too. We had edamane beans, gyoza and sushi and it was all delicious.

We chatted away like old friends and before I knew it, Caroline said, "Do you realise it is quarter to 11? I had no idea, time had flown by and considering Maple wakes at around 1030 and that I had 25 minutes to drive home it was time to leave.

As predicted, I got home to find Stu and Maple on the couch watching cartoons. If Maple wakes in the night and I am not there, she gets very upset so cartoons are the only distraction!

So thanks Caroline for meeting up, it was such a treat :-)
