A Day Worth Recording

Cute or what?

Busy day today but we'd planned an escape from the chaos and busy'ness to enjoy the sunshine. E, M and I went to Ickworth - the NT house just outside Bury St. Edmunds - not so much to see the house but to walk the grounds. This place has a serious back garden.

The lambs were an unexpected bonus.

Got together with Dan & Debbie, Paul and new player Marco for games in the evening. There being eight of us we split into two fours - I played Trains and Augustus, and a quickie of Hanabi.

Hanabi won the Game of the Year for 2013. Innovative but a bit light for such an award. It uses a fun mechanism whereby the only person who can't see your hand of cards is you, but others can give hints so that you can play cards to hopefully work towards a joint target.

Trains was interesting for a different reason. The mechanism it uses is a very thinly disguised clone of another game (Dominion), but adds more to that mechanism.
