Toads

Give me your arm, old toad;
Help me down Cemetery Road.

These lines from Toads Revisited by Philip Larkin refer to what he called in an earlier poem, Toads, the "toad work" that possessed him with its disciplines and expectations.

I was surprised to find toads and frogs mating side-by-side today on the fringes of the lake. In our pond the frogs have always spawned a week or so before the toads.

Some nice swans nesting too.
