Coo!

A beautiful day, so we abandoned everything and set off for the Washington Wetland Centre, Tyne and Wear. Despite being members of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, we had never been there. It was JulesG who said it was worth visiting and she was right. We had a brilliant day. The sun shone and there was a blue sky. And there were lots of birds. It is a beautifully laid out and maintained reserve with paths all round. There were a few people wandering, but really we virtually had the place to ourselves most of the time.

We saw lots of birds and watched otters being fed, which was great. So I had many photographs. However, I decided to blip this Eider Duck. There were a few swimming up and down, making this curious cooing sound. We think these males were trying to attract the attention of the females, who were having none of it!

Lunch at the Centre, a quick bit of sea air at Roker, Sunderland and home. A brilliant day. Thank Jules.

There is a little video here of the Eiders swimming and cooing, just as we watched them.
