Late Lambs

The weather has been miserable all day here in Marlborough. Rain during the night with grey skies all morning. The rain set in again this afternoon. It is welcome rain for the parched countryside but not welcome at all for the grape growers who are in the middle of harvesting their vineyards. The forecast is awful for tomorrow for when the Royals come to town. It is such a shame when we have been enjoying clear sunny days up until now. It does not seem as if I will be sitting out in Seymour Square for hours from early tomorrow morning hoping to catch a glimpse of Prince William and his lovely Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. We shall have to see what the weather gods deliver tomorrow morning.
I walked the dogs very early this morning under grey skies and poor light. Up near the Taylor Dam I spotted some sheep across the river grazing on a zig-zag track that leads down a terrace to the river bank. There were some lambs amongst them…very late lambs. It is certainly unusual to see lambs at this time of the year. I have a new compact camera with a 30 x optical zoom. So I had the chance to try it out in zooming into the mother sheep and her two babies over the river. Not bad eh for a point and shot camera?
