TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

We leave this morning after spending some time in this lovely place - and feel refreshed and relaxed. This was our last view of Boscombe Pier, with a beautiful blue sky and the sort of clouds I love. Goodbye - but we'll be back.

We are heading off to Wyke Regis, near Weymouth, to say goodbye to Phyll, a cousin of Mr. HCB's, who is one of the last links to his mother. Her funeral is at All Saints Church, the church she attended for many years, after she left Swindon with her husband to live at Wyke Regis to be near their only daughter.

A sad day in some ways, but she was well into her eighties and had been quite well until fairly recently, so we can't be too sad for her, but her immediate family will miss her very much. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a friend to many, not only at the church, but also at the local bowls club. She loved playing cards, and even if we only visited for a day, out came the cards and we would play several games - in fact, we often stayed much later than we meant to because you can't leave in the middle of a card game, can you?

Mr. HCB has lots of happy memories of Phyll and her husband, Henry, while he was growing up and Henry was a keen photographer, so his daughter now has the task of sorting through the hundreds thousands of slides and cine films going back many years.

So today, it's Time to Say Goodbye but we remember with love all that Phyll and Henry meant to their family and friends.

“Ever has it been that love knows not its own depth
until the hour of separation.”
Kahlil Gibran
