On the Jurassic Coast

We spent about an hour after breakfast strolling along the promenade here at Buddleigh Salterton  which is part of the Jurassic Coast stretching all the way along the East Devon and  Dorset Coast. It is so called because of the fossil finds from that era that are frequently found here and is a World Heritage site.

As you can see it was a glorious morning.

I love the contrast between the red cliffs stretching away and the much lighter pebbles on the beach found here. It was noticeable that these pebbles have been shifted by heavy seas this winter into two distinct peaks with a deep trough or valley between.
Love the pastel coloured beach huts, too some of which were being used today.

One reason for choosing this shot instead of the many others I have taken is the building surrounded by scaffolding at the top of the cliff. This used to be a hotel and is now apartments. We shared our breakfasts with the lady who owns the top floor apartment. She has been living in B&B since the winter storms whipped the roof off the building and her apartment subsequently was flooded. You don't expect to be flooded when living on the thing floor on top of a cliff!
Thankfully she was away when it happened but everything is still wet and it is unlikely she will be back in her home till October. She was in her 80's but quite sanguine about it! Her main complaint was that with everything in storage she didn't know how to find her passport!

Back in Bristol now and getting ready to go to see Grace in 'Hair' at the
Redgrave Theatre. 'Let the Sunshine in ...' certainly been like summer today.
