But, then again . . . . .

A Grand Day Out.

A visit to Stirling Castle as part of Mrs TD's research into tourism was the order of today. There was a haar all day which prevented us from having a good view of the nearby Wallace Monument.

The tour guide had an impressive knowledge and, after seriously over-running his allotted time left us to go sight-seeing. We did bump into the very regal Mary of Guise who talked to a couple of girls about the problems of wearing a crown and let them try hers on, then we chatted at length to the Mistress of the Laundry about her work and various issues of the day to day life in her time. This was capped by a young chamber maid who explained the symbolism in the tapestries depicting a unicorn hunt. How much of this was put on in recognition of Mothering Sunday we didn’t find out, but it was a very interesting day out. The admission fee was a little steep but it was still good value - particularly as we weren’t paying.

We ended up by visiting the weaving room where a lady was recreating the last of the tapestries, the originals are being preserved and the completed copies are on display to the public. The weaver had a long chat with us about the work; she was happy for a break, in spite of the notices say she wasn’t to be disturbed.

After we arrived home there was a disturbing phone call from The Old Lady's doctor, although she's a very caring young lady and was obviously preparing me for the possibility that TOL's persistent cough may be rather sinister. As we were rushing out to set up the cinema, I’ll have to delay phoning Sis about it until tomorrow morning.
