Not Smokey 1659 hr

I have mentioned this cat before, but this is the first time I have blipped him. At first glance you may have thought this was yet another Smokey picture, but actually this cat lives rather grandly at Lacock Abbey, and is often to be found near the stream that runs through the grounds. I nicknamed him Whitetip because of the white tip on the end of his tail, but I have since learned that he is known there as Gizmo, or as the Abbess.

I was actually walking towards the stream in the hope of finding him when he came running along the path to greet me, miaowing, purring and jumping up to be petted. As I crouched over him with my camera, he even jumped onto a tree stump to make it easier for me while he posed.

I had gone to the grounds to do some written work outdoors in such a fine afternoon. I had just been wandering through the allotments, not previously open to the public, and had then come across a beautiful patch of snake's head fritillaries near the path. I had seen some at Bowood in 2013 but had no idea any grew at Lacock. Sheep were out in the fields adjacent to the grounds, and the light shone beatifically onto the building's monastic stone.
