Easter Mods, 1964 Clacton 2014 Hertford

I snapped this group of (ageing) Mods at the petrol station this morning. They were on their way to a meet in Hertford. (The guy with the grey coat looked quite sharp.)

It is fifty years since Mods and Rockers clashed on the seafront at Clacton on the Easter weekend in 1964. I was an aspiring Mod at the time and eventually got a boyfriend with a Lambretta on which I rode pillion. The clothes we wore had to be Moddy and we loved The Who and the Small Faces. My friends and I were never part of the true Mod scene as we were at boarding school while it was happening. I still have a soft spot for Lambrettas and Vespas.
