The accidental finding

Severnside

We went to Lydney harbour, between the Forest of Dean and the river Severn. Here's a group of young people on the banks of the Severn, with the tide turning behind them, creating a huge curve in the water. Birds flock to the sandbar as it emerges from the river.

Their cries were delightful in the still, calm air. Lydney harbour is a wild, exposed place, with a view over two decommissioned power stations (nuclear) so it's not everyone's cup of tea, but very much mine, from a point of view of the amount of space, the bird life, and the industrial archaeology.

In the right hand corner you can just see the outline of the original Severn Bridge, which crosses the M48 from Chepstow to the outskirts of Bristol.
