Daisy the Donkey

We met Mrs Z, Mr K, Miss A and Mr H at Wimpole Home Farm today, a wonderful National Trust property near Cambridge.
We had been a bit worried about the pretty rubbish weather forecast but we decided to risk it.
And I'm so glad we did - what a fantastic day!
We had a lovely picnic as soon as we arrived and then walked up to the farm - stopping en route to climb a few trees and jump in a few puddles!
The farm has lots of rare breeds - we saw cute baby lambs and calves in beautiful old barns and milking sheds; we looked inside an active beehive (through perspex!); we milked pretend cows (teats on buckets!); we stroked Shetland ponies, climbed on real tractors, rode on toy tractors, played in the park, had tea and cake in the orchard under the blossom, groomed donkeys (Daisy and Clementine), went on a ride in a trailer pulled by an enormous tractor.
We explored the fabulous walled gardens and saw the most amazing tulips - so many different and unusual varieties. There was blossom and wildflower meadows and aliums everywhere. Stunning!
We picked giant rhubarb leaves and wore them as hats like Rhubarb Fairies, climbed a few more trees, splashed in a few more puddles and then sat in the evening sun for a bit just taking it all in.
What a fabulous day! We gambled with the weather and definitely won!
