The Punchbowl

We are in the Lake District for a weekend's orienteering. Today we were on Summerhouses Knott, a small but complex area near Finsthwaite. The owners of our B & B recommended we eat at their local pub/restaurant, The Punchbowl at Underbarrow. We walked to it in the evening and Tony pointed out a whole host of species of wildflower in the hedgerow. There were also several different trees making up the hedge which proved its ancient origins.

We can recommend the Punchbowl (there are three locally so be sure to get the Underbarrow one if you are in the area!). The portions were large and the quality/price excellent. Tony had the lamb casserole and I had the crispy, spicy fish cakes, yum!
