Day Out

I've had a wonderful day out with my mum today in Cambridge.
We headed first to the beautiful Orchard Tea Garden in Grantchester.
We went in Autumn last year but didn't get there until after the tea room was closed. We both fell in love with it and vowed to come back and see the blossom in it's spectacular full glory.
Going by the blossom in my garden we thought we were in for a treat.
Alas it was not to be - the blossom was all gone! Obviously East Anglian apple trees are much more advanced than ours!!
It was still idyllic and wonderful though - sitting in the dappled sunshine under the trees with pots of tea, listening to the birds, watching the robins and chaffinches landing on our chairs hoping for some stray crumbs.
Herons flying overhead, beautiful jays darting about.
And it got even better when we walked through the water meadows down to the river and walked a mile or so along the river towards Cambridge. Buttercups and cow parsley and stormy sunshine.
What a wonderful place!
We drove into Cambridge and had a yummy free lunch in Prezzo courtesy of Mr Tesco before having a lovely afternoon wandering around. We discovered a gorgeous little gallery which I will be returning to when I win the lottery, an amazing, eclectic bookshop and a fab little café with the yummiest mint tea ever. I bought myself a beautiful new scarf from one of the market stalls (which I regretted not buying last time!) and we generally pottered and had a lovely time.
It's only an hour away - we've already planned our next trip!
