Planted in 1966

Rhododendrons in the front garden at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

I never realized how fond I was of flowers—and flower photos—until I started photographing them. This is more of a tree than a shrub, in full bloom for Eastertide. The collage shows four views of the same plant.

I was at a retreat led by the Very Reverend Kate Moorehead, who is Dean of the Episcopal cathedral in Jacksonville, Florida. She is pretty, smart, wise, and sweet. And younger than the rhododendron.

The retreat was about St. Mary Magdalene, the Apostle to the Apostles, one of the great women of scripture, and much neglected. They couldn't quite get rid of her, though, because she's the first witness to the Resurrection. She speaks her famous words, "I have seen the Lord," and then she disappears from church history.
