" WONDERFUL LAND " - The Shadows.

If you turned on the TV today you would have seen the amazing celebration of D Day. And although history was not my best subject at school, surely everyone knows about the events of WW11. And because there are not many survivors left, this was probably the last!! It was very humbling to watch.

These are Mr A's Fathers' WW11 medals. They rewarded his campaigns at Dunkirk, India and Burma. Sadly he died in 1991 at just 72 years old, following 50 years serving his country. He joined the army at 15 years old.

My Father was also a Dunkirk survivor and went on to serve in Egypt and India. He also died too early at just 76.

They gave their yesterdays that we might have a tomorrow. They only once spoke together with us, very briefly, of their experiences. It was clearly too painfull to recall the things they saw, and perhaps were called upon to do.

As I walked across this beautiful valley and looked out at the beauty that surrounds us, it struck me deeply that I and you are only here because of their sacrifice.

"At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them. "
