Snakes in the compost

We have two grass snakes living in our compost bin.  It is quite difficult to photograph them since they disappear very quickly when disturbed.  They are usually lying coiled on top of the rotting vegetable peelings and fruit.  I am wondering whether they have a nest with eggs hidden in the bin somewhere.  They eat frogs and  toads, small rodents and even small birds.  They can measure up to two metres long but ours look like young ones as they are half that size.

N and I went out to lunch with A and A  today and had an enjoyable time and sat in their garden in the shade.  Hopefully tomorrow we shall bale all the hay fields then that is finished for another year.
