Plus ça change...

It's not what you know...

..it's who you know.

The day was shaping up to be a nice quiet relaxing kind of a Friday, when my sister emailed: she had a free hotel room in Glasgow for the night, one of her friends had cried off the trip pleading flu - did I want to sub in?

Well, when she mentioned the magic words "whisky party" I jumped at the chance...

Met my sis and her not poorly friend on the train from Newcastle, and headed over to Glasgow. The free hotel room was at the top of Byers Road and came with the free fizz pictured above - a happy start to the evening. Then we headed off to a party at "Jan the whisky man"'s flat. A fabulously eclectic and cosmopolitan mix of folk, mostly linked by whisky. As a few folk at the party work in the industry, there were lots of interesting, unusual and downright delicious malts to be sampled and everyone was very generous with the whisky (particularly given we'd been caught out by the new (?is it new?) law that you can't get off-sales of alcohol after 10pm in Scotland so the three of us arrived with one bottle of wine between us).

A fine night.

(to be continued...)
