Trap surprise!

When I opened my moth trap at 4.30 yesterday morning, I was really pleased to see a Large elephant hawk-moth staring back at me from in the egg boxes. I was really surprised a few minutes later to remove an egg box and see this wonderful pine hawk-moth (Hyloicus pinastri).
I have never in all my time running a moth trap seen one of these before, let alone caught one in my little garden.
I know he is a bit worn and tired, and as they fly in a single generation probably at the end if his life but in my eyes he is a fantastic find, and yet another tick!
According to UK moths they inhabit coniferous woodland and are restricted to the south and east of the UK.
I wonder what other goodies my trap will yield this year.
