Capital adventures

Not a Virgin, fan

So up at 6 to pack and then with 4 pairs of shoes and 3 shrugs off to Aberystwyth, slowly.

We arrived at Waverley in good time, just after 10 to find the train was already 35 minutes late. It had had brake problems on the way up and by the time we left it was 50 minutes late. That meant we knew we'd miss the connection at Wolverhampton.

The station, and the train were busy with T in the Park returnees. However, we got going in the Quiet Coach, with a fractious baby all the way to Oxenholme. Before Carlisle the t'internet was showing the train as cancelled further south and soon enough the announcement came, we were so late they were redesignating the train and it wouldn't be stopping at Wolverhampton.

So off at Lancaster and I remembered in the nick of time I'd left my handbag under the seat. Rescued it, phew! We retrained on a 4 carriage set coming from Glasgow and stood until Preston when they put on 4 more carriages so off and back on again.

An hour in Wolverhampton and #3 son would have blagged the 1st class lounge except their were no staff there so we partook of the coffee and crisps and cake.

Then off on a full Arriva train, standing to Telford. It's 3 hours from Wolverhampton to Aberystwyth and we finally got there at 7.30 in a heavy drizzle and still carrying the 2 bottles of M&S celebratory Rosada Cava because the M&S girl had omitted the cups.

But the apartment made up for it and after a soggy walk on the Prom and indifferent fish and chips we did almost see a sunset.

Long day, but looking forward tomorrow.
