God's own country

What a beautiful day here in the Swiss Alps. Before we arrived I believe they have had weeks of rain (and summer snow), but today was glorious with blue skies and sunshine. It really is God's own country here, we have been coming here for ten years now and yet every year the sheer beauty of this place takes my breath away, as if I am seeing it for the first time.

As I said, this is our tenth summer here and I still love being here. There was a bit of grumbling from the older teenagers who say there is not much to do (golf, hiking, tennis, cycling, swimming...what more can they want) but it is not exactly clubbing in London or inter-railing with their friends all over Europe and spreading their wings with their newfound independence that they think they have at 17 and 18 years old! Thomas loves coming here, he has friends that he meets up with every year and today he had a morning of downhill biking and then swimming at the village pool with his friends.

Gavin and I started the day by stocking up on groceries - not a good experience at these prices....thank goodness I brought a cooler box of chicken! Mince meat is triple to what it costs in Waitrose....

The good weather is meant to be here all week but then next week more rain and cooler weather - that is what the mountains are like.
