Hummingbird on a Chilly Morning

The stormy system that moved through on Sunday night left us with lower temperatures in its wake. Monday was more reasonable. Tuesday morning was positively cool, especially for late July.

A quick visit to the pollinator gardens brought me face to face with plenty of bumblebees on blooms. As I leaned down to photograph them, I heard a commotion in the air above my head.

Two hummingbirds were suddenly chasing each other through the gardens, and the air was alive with chirps and green flashes as they zipped by.

It's difficult to photograph a flying hummer; less difficult to capture them when they finally sit down somewhere to rest. After the chase was done, that's exactly what the one little bird did.

As the wee green bird sat there atop a vine blooming with lavender posies, the morning breeze ruffled its feathers, and I thought the poor little thing looked positively chilly.

So the tune to go along with this image is a song to accompany cooler weather . . .  Little River Band, with a 1981 live performance of their hit, Cool Change.
