The Spirit of Walllington

Wallington Hall is a National Trust Property not too far from here. This afternoon we went to see an exhibition of textiles put on by Twyne, a group of textile artists who live between the Tyne and the Tweed. Their pieces of work were all produced in response to Wallington Hall and were placed in different parts of the stately home.

We particularly enjoyed the artists's workbooks which showed how the projects had been conceived and then practice pieces of work produced before the final work of art.

On Thursdays, some of the artists sit in the drawing room and demonstrate their work. Mum knew 2 of the 3 who were there today and we had a good natter. The first version of the embroidery in my image was made for the Lindisfarne Gospels exhibition in Durham Cathedral last year. It was bought and a second one was made before the exhibition went to Ripon Cathedral. That was sold - so here is version 3 in the making!
