Working for our supper

This evening we drove slightly out of town to a highly-rated Khmer restaurant called Khmer Root Cafe. The owner is Cambodian but lived in the UK for a while and even has a British passport. The bar is lined with Union Jack flags.

We were the only customers so we got special treatment. Not only did we get to watch him pick and prepare all the food completely from scratch, but we got to join in. We got to grate a coconut the traditional way, which I've wanted to do for ages. It was delicious and my favourite restaurant experience in Cambodia so far.
