Playing Judy Murray

What a day BB and I have had. We went to the Scottish Open Grand Prix 2014 at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland’s biggest International badminton event of the year.   A bus load of local kids and a few parent helpers (including me) headed over this morning.  The kids had a coaching session in the morning, where as part of it they got to hit a few shuttlecocks (if that is the correct terminology) with Judy Murray.

The coaching session was held in the velodrome, where there was also cycle training going on.  Plenty to keep us parent helpers occupied.  The badminton and the cycling were great.

In the afternoon we headed into the Arena for three finals – men’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles.  They were all fantastic games, but I think I liked the doubles best as it was just so fast and the players so accurate.  I kept thinking racquets and players would get tangled – but of course these are top players, so these things don’t happen.  A Finn fought back to win the men’s singles and a Danish pair won the men’s doubles.

The highlight of the day had to be watching the Scots play the Danes  in the mixed doubles final.  A fabulous match and I am pleased to say the Scots won very convincingly in the end.  The Arena erupted!

We all had a grand day out.  It was such a great experience for the kids and something that they will remember for a long time.  BB said this morning he was excited and nervous.  He had an amazing time and I am sure he will sleep well tonight.

Here is a busy, and not particularly great blip.  On the far court, Judy Murray (on right in pink t-shirt) is hitting to BB (on left in red t-shirt).
